NBA Daily: Is It Time To Cash Out On Kemba Walker? | Basketball Insiders | NBA Rumors And Basketball News

Paul Pierce, coincidentally, is currently employed as an NBA analyst by ESPN, while Garnett, as mentioned, is employed by TNT. Each of the players have platforms to respond to Allen’s comments, so in all likelihood, we haven’t heard the last from one of the more discussed teams this generation has seen.

The end result is after two years of aggressive spending, most teams will be either over the cap or in some cases way over the luxury tax line before free agency even opens.

Had they not been undercut by injuries and had the opportunity to keep their band together, the Celtics may have very well won three consecutive championships.

“For three years the team had shopped me around and tried to move me,” Allen told SLAM.

Every professional sports team at some point has to decide when its time to cash out, especially if they have a star player heading towards free agency. The Charlotte Hornets are a team teetering on this decision with star guard Kemba Walker.

Although the teams split their two meetings (with one remaining), the more recent matchup occurred post-trade deadline, so that seems indicative of how they will perform against one another going forward. LeBron has averaged 30.5 points against the Raptors so far, which exceeds his overall 27.5 PPG by more than 10 percent.

Like Parker, the Magic are going to be over the cap in a significant way, so money paid to Gordon is only available to him, and he would become tradable in January.

As some on this list, the money paid to Hood is really only available to him, as the Cavs won’t get anywhere near cap space in the next couple of years.

Thereafter, the trade fell apart, but Allen emerged from the situation having felt that “loyalty” was only a one-way street.

[$4.42m Qualifying Offer – $9.60m Cap Hold]

Another reason why Allen’s departure from Boston has gotten renewed attention was because he was conspicuously absent from Paul Pierce’s jersey retirement ceremony in Boston in February.

VIDEO: Karl-Anthony Towns – 2018 NBA All-Star

The next group of cap space markets might get to real salary cap room, but its more likely they spend this summer like say the Houston Rockets or are equal to less desirable situations like Sacramento (similar), Dallas (has Dennis Smith Jr), Atlanta (similar) or Phoenix (likely drafts a point guard).

“By the time [free agency] came, [the Celtics] had signed everyone else contractually and then when it came time for me, it was like, ‘This is all we have left for you,’ and we had the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Memphis Grizzlies and the Minnesota Timberwolves.”

League sources at the G-League Showcase last week, doubted that any traction could be had on Walker while admitting he’s a name to watch, despite however unlikely a trade seemed today.

The cap hold on Capela makes it nearly impossible that he won’t be back in Houston. While the Rockets do have big dreams of what could be possible this summer, they can make all of their moves and still exceed the cap to re-sign Capela.

NBA Daily: Ray Allen Finally Tells His Side Of The Story

Ray Allen addressed his relationships with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo.

It’s easier to rebuild around a star already in place and the fact that Walker himself laughs off the notion of him being anywhere but Charlotte is at least a good sign and the Hornets have some time before they have to really make a decision.

PODCAST: Breaking Down The Western Conference Playoff Race

At the end of the day, it was good to hear Allen speak about his exit and tell his side of the story, especially after Garnett (who currently works for TNT and has his own platform) appeared on the network with Pierce, Rondo, Kendrick Perkins and Glen Davis and discussed Allen and his departure from the team at length.

“When I left, it was clear that the team wasn’t doing what they needed to do to bring me back into the next year into the fold,” Allen said.

This will have an impact on the marketplace, especially for players hoping for a whopper of an offer sheet in restricted free agency.

It is going to be hard to pry Smart out of Boston at value—it’s going to take an offer sheet that’s more than Boston will match, which means something in the $12-$14 million per year range on a multi-year deal.

In a 2013 interview with SLAM Magazine, Allen revealed that the Celtics agreed to trade him to Memphis in exchange for Mayo at the 2012 trade deadline. In that interview, Allen stated that Ainge told him that the trade was done and that Allen notified his family that they would be relocating to Memphis.

For the Hornets, those three situations have to be a little scary, as all of themff something Charlotte can’t offer – big markets and rosters (save maybe the Clippers) with potentially higher upside.

[$5.56m Qualifying Offer – $12.44m Cap Hold]

After losing to the Lakers in the 2010 NBA Finals, the Celtics would lose to the Miami HEAT in both the 2011 and 2012 playoffs. With LeBron James and Dwyane Wade having been unsuccessful in their individual attempts to overthrow the Celtics as an Eastern Conference power, they would eventually team up and turn the tide on the aging trio.

But for the sake of discussion, let’s assume most of the 2019 cap space teams swing and miss on anything meaningful this summer and have flexibility the following summer. Not only will Walker be a name to watch, but guys like Boston’s Kyrie Irving, Minnesota’s Jimmy Butler, Golden State’s Klay Thompson, Dallas’ Harrison Barnes, Detroit’s Tobias Harris, San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard and Cleveland’s Kevin Love can all hit unrestricted free agency.

Still, it was nice to hear directly from Ray Allen… Finally.

The easy answer for the Lakers is to simply lock Randle up early, which means the front office will have to ask for quick decisions from would-be free agents before another team puts an offer in front of Randle he is willing to sign and start the clock on the matching rights of restricted free agency.

“We wanted a new contract,” he said, clarifying his position that he and his agent were involved in season-long negotiations with the Celtics prior to his becoming an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2012.

During Allen’s description of the events that led to his departure from Boston, one name that seemed relevant didn’t come up: O.J. Mayo.

The Orlando Magic dealt Payton to the Suns at the trade deadline after finding very little interest from other teams. The Suns, according to sources, were high on Payton and wanted to the opportunity to try out the fit before committing.

There are Luxury Tax concerns, and that would be meaningful for a smaller revenue market like Milwaukee, but with a brand-new area ready to come online, the word is Bucks ownership isn’t worried about the cost of the roster.

NBA Daily: Raptors Look To Fine-Tune The Defense

The majority of the 15-plus minute interview is available on ESPN’s YouTube channel.

That leaves the Cleveland Cavaliers, who eliminated the Raptors from the playoffs for the past two seasons. The Cavs’ prowess has been diluted by the Kyrie Irving trade, injuries to Kevin Love (who is being evaluated for a concussion) and the need to reinvent their roster on the fly at the trade deadline. Their team defense is bottom-four in points allowed, opponents’ field goal percentage and in creating turnovers.

The Boston Celtics had numerous offers for Smart at the trade deadline and opted to hang on to him. That bodes well for him staying in Boston beyond this season; the question becomes does another team test Boston’s taste for luxury tax?

NBA Daily: 2018 NBA Mock Draft – 3/20/18

The wrinkle in all of it is the teams projected to have space. Based on what’s guaranteed today, the top of the 2019 cap space board starts with the LA Clippers.

Given the glaring mismatch in a man-to-man scenario, Toronto will need to provide help-side defense (as the Miami HEAT did on Tuesday night) with their shot-blocking specialists and force James to pass out of double teams. Unfortunately for the Raptors, James’ 9.7 assists per game this season are well above his career 7.2 average and he is on pace for an all-time high in that category. Still, it’s probably in their best interest to force the supporting cast to beat them in what will likely be high-scoring contests.

The prevailing thought is the Exum will be back in Utah, but it would take something pretty spectacular to think its on a new long-term deal.

There are two side to every story, and on Thursday, future NBA Hall of Famer Ray Allen told his.

There has been a lot of talk in Chicago about how much Zach LaVine is really going to command. Given the lack of cap money around the NBA and the Bulls ability to match anything reasonable, LaVine may be in a tough spot if he is expecting the marketplace to boost his deal.

The other part of the decision is evaluating the marketplace. This is where Charlotte may have an advantage that’s easy to overlook, which is the ability to massively overpay.

In the years that have followed, the circumstances under which Allen left Boston for Miami weren’t well-known. All that seemed to be common knowledge was that Pierce and Garnett felt that Allen abandoned the team and, it was alleged, Allen departed Boston without as much as a phone call to any of his former teammates.

Raptors Poised for Historic Run

That’s a pretty respectable free agent class.

While Allen did admit that there was some static between him and Rajon Rondo, he suggested that his run-ins with Rondo were nothing that he couldn’t deal with and that, for him, the major reason be left Boston was business.

The Philadelphia 76ers could come in third on the 2019 cap space list, although it seems the 76ers may go all in this summer on re-signing guard J.J. Redick and a swing at a big fish or two. If the 76ers miss, they still have an extension for Ben Simmons to consider, but that shouldn’t impact the ability to get to meaningful space.

Lakers’ Isaiah Thomas Undergoes Surgery, Out Four Months

The prevailing thought around the Cavaliers is that Hood is not a rental. The Cavs made the deal to acquire Hood not only for the short term, but to re-sign him this summer.

Rebuilding through the draft is a painfully slow and frustrating process that usually costs you a coach or two and typically a new front office. Rebuilding through the draft is time consuming and usually very expensive.

The danger for the Lakers is that there appear to be two early suitors for Randle that may force the Lakers’ hand. The Dallas Mavericks have had an eye on Randle for some time and is the team most expect to be on Randle’s doorstep at 12:01 am on July 1.

Led by Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Allen and Rajon Rondo, those Celtics became an excellent basketball team in rather quick fashion, going 66-16 in their first season together and beating the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2008 NBA Finals.

NBA Daily: The Draft Is More Than One Thing

Now, let’s be honest for a moment. The Hornets are getting nothing of meaningful value in a trade for Walker if they decided to put him on the trade market—that’s something that will drive part of the decision. Check out these UK sports books with free bets!

“I’ve made mistakes and I can admit that,” Allen said. “I could admit that I should have really thoroughly engaged those guys as I was going through the process, but it’s difficult at the time.”

There are other players who could be restricted free agents based on being a second-round pick, being undrafted or simply signing shorter-term deals. As we get closer and closer to free agency, we’ll look at these in more depth.

Current cap projections peg the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, LA Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns and possibly the Indiana Pacers as having meaningful cap space.

NBA Salaries Select a Team Atlanta Hawks Boston Celtics Brooklyn Nets Charlotte Hornets Chicago Bulls Cleveland Cavaliers Dallas Mavericks Denver Nuggets Detroit Pistons Golden State Warriors Houston Rockets Indiana Pacers Los Angeles Clippers Los Angeles Lakers Memphis Grizzlies Miami Heat Milwaukee Bucks Minnesota Timberwolves New Orleans Pelicans New York Knicks Oklahoma City Orlando Magic Philadelphia 76ers Phoenix Suns Portland Trail Blazers Sacramento Kings San Antonio Spurs Toronto Raptors Utah Jazz Washington Wizards

Allen noticeably posted a photo on Instagram during Pierce’s ceremony. It was perceived as a slight against Pierce. The perception was that Allen simply had better things to do than make the trip from Los Angeles (where the photo was taken) to Boston.

“First of all, I wasn’t invited,” Allen said on First Take.

The Chicago Bulls come in second on the 2019 cap space list with just $35.77 million in cap commitments. The problem for the Bulls is they are going to have to start paying their young guys, most notably Zach LaVine. That’s won’t stop the Bulls from getting to cap space, it’s simply a variable the Bulls have to address this summer that could get expensive.

Like Parker, the odds that Aaron Gordon is not re-signed in Orlando is pretty small; however, unlike Parker, the Magic may let the market drive the value of the next deal.

Injuries have derailed Dante Exum’s NBA career, but there is a window this season for him to establish something of a market value in Utah with the team’s push toward the playoffs.

76ers’ Embiid Suffers Orbital Fracture, Will Require Surgery

All pending restricted free agent players have two values to keep in mind – the qualifying offer value and a cap hold value. Cap holds are in essence cap placeholders which take up a fixed and defined amount of cap space. While teams can exceed the cap to re-sign their own players, there is always a placeholder on the cap until a new deal is reached or the team renounces that player.

“I have an opportunity to win a championship ring… Once you put the cards on the table, this [was] the best position I had. Once I know that my tenure in Boston [was] over, I had to go where I knew I had the best opportunity to win.”

Given how well Nurkić has played (especially recently) it seems unlikely that Portland doesn’t retain him, especially considering how low both his qualifying offer and his cap hold are, the Blazers are in the driver seat on a new deal.

The Clippers currently have just Blake Griffin and Danilo Gallinari under contract going into 2019. They will have qualifying offers on Milos Teodosic and Sam Dekker, but that’s about it. If the Clippers play their cards right, they could be looking at what could be close to $48 million in usable cap space, making them the biggest threat to poach a player because of the LA marketplace. It should be noted, though, that DeAndre Jordan’s situation will have an impact here.

Randle’s future is squarely tied to the Lakers pursuit of marquee free agents. While there is little doubt Randle has emerged as a promising young star, the Lakers are going to have a hard time clearing the necessary cap space to pursue two max-level free agents and hang onto Randle’s Bird Rights.

With their squad firing on all cylinders, their primary Eastern Conference foes seem inferior by comparison these days. The Boston Celtics, who emerged as early favorites, are now tasked with completing the stretch run without both Kyrie Irving (out 3-6 weeks following left knee surgery) and Gordon Hayward; the Philadelphia Sixers are intriguing, but still probably a year or two away from becoming a legitimate threat (Toronto has won three of four meetings); and the Washington Wizards have been unable to keep pace without point guard John Wall.

Since then, there’s been a lot of guessing as to what exactly caused Allen to leave, and until Thursday, he’d remained relatively silent on the matter.

VIDEO: Eric Gordon – 2018 NBA All-Star

There is a scenario in which someone tries to poach Gordon with a max. level offer, but even then, the Magic would be smarter to match a deal unless it’s loaded with unfavorable terms to the Magic’s rebuild plan.

The Bucks are going to be way over the salary cap, so there is zero reason not to retain Parker on a new deal, simply because they won’t get below the salary cap line with or without a new Parker deal, so in essence any money paid to Parker is money that’s only available to Parker and no one else.

While most of those names will likely stay where they are, especially if their teams shower them with full max contracts as most would expect, there are a few names that might make the market interesting.

The challenge for the Hornets isn’t as simple as cashing out of Walker, not just because the return will be low, but also because where would the franchise go from here?

Steve Kyler takes a look at the impact restricted free agents who might be in store for a tough summer.

Blazers ownership has never had a problem spending money, but once a team rolls over the luxury tax line, it becomes harder and more expensive to make trades.

A post shared by Ray Allen (@trayfour) on Feb 11, 2018 at 10:05am PST

Predicting the Raptors’ chances against the elite teams from the Western Conference is arguably pointless until they show the ability to advance beyond their own bracket. Hearing “O Canada” before an NBA Finals game would be an accomplishment in and of itself, though.

Until then you can check out all the 2018-29 Free Agents here.

It’s easy to say re-build through the draft, but glance around the NBA today – how many of those rebuild through the draft situations are yielding competitive teams? How many of them have been rebuilding for five years or more?

Sources close to the situation said it would take a whopper of an offer for the Bulls not to match. The NBA has cautioned teams about declaring their willingness to match offers publicly, but Bulls sources that would comment on the subject found it laughable that LaVine wouldn’t be back in Chicago on a new contract, the question remaining is what’s the amount that gets it done?

Instead, they may go down as being one of the best champions to fail to win more than one title.

Far from perfect, Allen did own up to the fact that he could have engaged his former teammates more and let them know that he’d felt his tenure with the team had ended, and he mentioned Paul Pierce by name.

It is important to point out that restricted free agency is a multi-step process which starts with the issuance of a qualifying offer. A player does not have to accept the offer, and the team can, at any point, pull that offer making the player unrestricted.

If he won’t commit then, the Hornets have their answer and can use the summer to try an extract a package similar to what the Cavaliers got for Irving.

It seems for some time that maybe the Blazers had cooled on Nurkić, as they explored trades for other centers for several weeks leading up to the trade deadline. In the end, the Blazers held firm and have gone a crazy run—enough to suggest that Nurkić might actually get a new deal in Portland.

That brings us back to the Hornets decision making process.

“I didn’t know where I was gonna end up, but when you look at the dominoes and how they fall, you have your opinions in front of you. I’m not gonna sabotage myself because people are gonna be mad that I go to Miami,” Allen said.

There are scenarios where it becomes possible to add players and retain Randle; it would simply require the added player to not receive max level money.

NBA Daily: 2018 NBA Mock Draft – 3/20/18

“For that final year I was there, I was actually traded to Memphis. I got the phone call and told that I was traded for O.J. Mayo… I took that into my summer, that I could potentially—regardless of what I did for the team—there’s no great loyalty shown amongst the teams to the players, ’cause they’ll trade you in a heartbeat.”

Most NBA insiders believe the Bucks are not only going to pay Parker, but they may not force him to play out of the Offer Sheet game.

Ray Allen became the first member of the team’s core four to leave, as he opted to sign with the Miami HEAT after becoming a free agent in July 2012. That Allen joined the team that was a rival of the Celtics was considered an act of betrayal by not only fans in Boston, but by his former teammates.

Prior to the recurring post-season appearances that began in 2013-14, the Raptors had advanced past the first round of the playoffs just once (in 2000-01). Their rosters have featured perennial all-stars like Vince Carter and Chris Bosh, but the Raptors were unable to cobble together a supporting cast capable of defeating juggernauts like the Jordan-era Chicago Bulls during their tenure.

While Randle’s $5.56m qualifying offer is an easy number for the Lakers, it’s his $12.44 million cap hold that handicaps things. Unless the Lakers can find a way to jettison the lingering contract of forward Luol Deng without taking anything meaningful back against the cap, it’s going to be nearly impossible to get to two max slots and retain Randle.

As mentioned previously, the Raptors are on pace to enjoy home court advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs. They are currently 30-7 at the Air Canada Centre, which has been far better than the Cavs’ 19-18 road record to date. The opportunity to capitalize upon this disparity in the postseason will be paramount.

Another team to watch is the Sacramento Kings. After dumping George Hill’s contract off on the Cavaliers, the Kings could have some cap money, and Randle is a name linked to them as well.

The Magic are a team in transition, and there has been a growing sense that if Gordon did not want to come back, they might be open to a sign and trade, especially if the NBA draft yields a better fitting cornerstone player.

While the future of LeBron James is going to weigh on every decision the Cavs make, the belief if even if James leaves,Hood is a good future piece to build around making his next deal something of a formality.

If there is a player on the list that reasonably could be elsewhere next season, it might be Smart, but that seems far from certain.

The latest iteration has been constructed for playoff longevity. Backcourt stalwarts Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan were joined by defensive maven Serge Ibaka for last season’s playoff run, and his aggressive style has been balanced by the steadiness of seven-foot center Jonas Valanciunas.

From that point, Allen says, he began discussing his other options with his wife and his agent—the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves and, of course, Miami.

By

Smart seems to be a player that will get offers; the question is will anyone offer more than the $13.6 million cap hold?

NBA Daily: 2018 NBA Mock Draft – 3/6/2018

Here are some of the notable pending restricted free agents and what we know today:

NBA Daily: 2018 NBA Mock Draft – 3/13/18

If the Hornets put Walker on the market, historically, teams get pennies on the dollar for high-level players headed to free agency. If traded, its more likely than not that Walker hits free agency and goes shopping. That’s the scary part of trading for an expiring contract unless you get the player early enough for him to grow attached to the situation, most players explore options. That tends to drive down the potential return.

The Hornets can also start extension discussions with Walker and his camp this summer and it seems more likely than not the Hornets will pay Walker the full max allowed under the collective bargaining agreement, which could be a deal north of $150 million and he could ink that in July.

Should the Hornets get serious about trading Kemba Walker or risk losing him in 2019 for next to nothing?

There is a window in which another team could try to poach Hood with a hefty offer, but given where the Cavs are cap wise, there is zero reason not to match, even a crazy offer.

There is always the chance a team tries to force the Rockets hand and timing, but at the end of the day, just because a team makes an offer doesn’t mean Capela has to accept it.

The Milwaukee Bucks entertained a number of offers on Parker at the trade deadline and at least seriously considering moving him. This is actually really common for teams that may be struggling to understand a player’s worth on the market.

But statistical inadequacies can be overcome with LeBron James on the roster. He is capable of willing a team to the NBA Finals on his own. James continues to fill the stat sheet on a nightly basis and he still plays like he has a chip on his shoulder. For all intents and purposes, he is the greatest obstacle in the Raptors’ next-level quest.

Given Parker’s knee issues the balance of the season will be important for setting a real price on Parker.

For the Raptors, small forward has been their Achilles’ heel this season. Rookie O.G. Anunoby leads the team with 54 starts, in which he averaged a paltry 20.7 minutes and 5.7 points per game. His defensive rating of 102.7 isn’t terrible, but he appears to be functioning as a placeholder while he continues to develop on the job. Backup Norman Powell (105.8 defensive rating) doesn’t offer much resistance and his numbers have regressed in general versus the prior season.

“I would have much more appreciated it if [Garnett] brought me on the show and told me, ‘You know, let’s clear the air, let’s figure this out, let’s mend the fences,’ instead of sitting here talking about why you’re mad at me,” Allen said.

NBA Daily: Could Be A Tough Restricted Market

At some point, Charlotte has to decide when to cash out. For the Hornets, the time to make that decision on Walker might be the February 8 trade deadline. It might also be July 1, when they’ll know whether Walker would sign a max contract extension.

Looking ahead to the cap situations for the NBA in the summer of 2019, there doesn’t appear to be a lot worth getting excited over. While it’s possible someone unexpected goes into cap clearing mode to get space, the teams that project to have space in 2019 also project to have space in 2018, meaning some of that 2019 money could get spent in July and change the landscape even more.

Toronto’s presence among the league leaders in team statistics wouldn’t be possible without its depth. As of this writing, Toronto is third in scoring at 122.4 points per contest, which includes significant contributions from C.J. Miles (10.3 average in only 18.9 minutes per game) followed by backup guards Fred VanVleet (8.7 PPG) and Delon Wright (8.2 PPG).

The big issue facing both the Blazers and Nurkić is their proximity to the luxury tax. It’s possible the Blazers look to shed some contract money this offseason to clear up their cap, but with both Nurkić and fellow potential restricted free agent Shabazz Napier looking for new deals, the long-term may impact the short-term.

Unfortunately for Exum, he hasn’t done enough to live up to his draft hype, and he may be a player that takes the qualifying offer. In his case, one more year in Utah at $6.61 million, and the ability to veto any trades might be smarter than trying to find a deal that doesn’t tie him into a lower dollar deal.

Assuming the Suns don’t find a better option in the draft, there is a good chance Payton is back in Phoenix on a new deal, but its unlikely the Suns are going to break the bank for Payton – meaning he might be poachable.

NBA Daily: Surging HEAT Must Overcome Adversity

Sources: Nicolas Batum Diagnosed with Chronic Tendinitis in Left Achilles

Last summer was a little brutal to some of the guys that bet on themselves and for teams that rolled the dice on restricted free agency. Most early cap projections have the 2018-19 NBA Salary cap increasing slightly from the $99.093 million it landed at this season to just around $101 million.

So far, Payton has been productive enough to think the Suns may hang on to him.

Allen was asked about that.

It’s possible that someone offers the Hornets the moon for Walker. That has happened in the past. The Celtics gave the Cavaliers a pretty solid return for Irving, a player the Cavaliers had to trade. So it’s not out of the question real offers come in, especially with the NBA trade deadline approaching, but what’s far more likely is the Hornets wait out this season and try to extend Walker this summer.

[$7.26m Qualifying Offer – $16.51m Cap Hold]

That’s not a reflection on how management views Gordon, simply that they are trying to shed cap dollars and get themselves right sided on a number of fronts and overpaying for Gordon is a concern.

on

The wrinkle to watch in all of this is what could be as many as three first-round draft picks (most insiders believe one of those later first round picks is going to be traded), and a boatload of free agent money.

The path to the NBA Finals has never been rosier for the Toronto Raptors, but they must dethrone the King in the East along the way.

The Toronto Raptors could soon find themselves in uncharted territory. They’ve never been the top seed in the East, and the 2015-16 campaign represented their only trip to the conference finals. Those achievements don’t comprise much of a resume for a franchise that joined the league in 1995.

While the NBA is doing better than it ever has in the revenue department, the salary cap system is simply a mechanism to ensure the players, as a group, receive the agreed 49-51 percent of total Basketball Related Income. Part of the calculation to reach the cap figure is based on what’s already owed to players in salaries and benefits. Because NBA teams spent like drunken sailors when the salary cap exploded two seasons ago, the cap isn’t jumping up nearly as much as some expected when all the new television rights revenue started to pour in.

It’s pretty safe to say the only uncertainty on Capela is how many years and how many dollars.

With Celtics guard Kyrie Irving’s future a little uncertain (Irving is eligible for a contract extension this summer) would the Celtics be wise to let Smart leave before getting an answer from Irving?

“At no point did anybody reach out to me and say, ‘We would love for you to be here’… I knew nothing about his jersey retirement.”

The former Celtics didn’t exactly use the term “traitor” on air, but many of their comments suggested that they felt that Allen betrayed them by leaving Boston.

While they say it only takes one team to set a market, having so few teams with meaningful cap space could make for a tough summer.

Allen said that he still loves his former teammates and has no ill will toward any of them. He would be open to receiving a phone call, so it’ll be interesting to see whether or not that actually happens.

In all, according to Allen, his departure from Boston had nothing to do with personal feelings or animus and everything to do with business. According to him, he ultimately decided that his tenure in Boston was over when Danny Ainge issued him an ultimatum and offered him a below-market contract in a “take it or leave it” proposition.

The Raptors are second in blocks per game (6.0), but Serge Ibaka (who is known for excelling in that category) actually trails teammate Jakob Poeltl (1.3 vs. 1.2 on average) despite playing an extra nine minutes per game.
